My husband loves scary movies. If he could have his perfect Halloween wish, it would be to stay home with all the lights out watching really scary shows all night long. Unfortunately for him, I don’t like watching scary movies – they give me nightmares and keep me pondering on them for far too long. So in an effort to compromise, we’ve created a little tradition. For a few nights before Halloween, he and I will watch a movie together after the kids have gone to sleep. He spends weeks before the big event planning exactly which shows we are going to watch. And I have to admit, he does a fantastic job picking out movies that scare me just enough so that I can still sleep at night.
The kids also get a to watch some Halloween shows before Halloween, but not the really scary ones! We own a few that are fantastic, but like to round out our collection with what we can find on Netflix. These are our favorite Halloween movies on Netflix this year:

Mickey’s House of Villains

Scared Shrekless / Monters vs. Aliens Mutant Pumpkins {Halloween Specials}

Goosebumps Series

Spooky Buddies

Casper’s Scare School

Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest
Of course, there are some classics that just aren’t available on Netflix and are worth owning or renting:
- Hocus Pocus
- Casper the friendly ghost
- Monsters Inc.
- It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown
- Monster House
- Hotel Transylvania
- Caroline
- Monsters vs. Aliens
- Bugs Bunny Howl-oween Special
- Eloise: Eloise’s Rawther Unusual Halloween
Here’s to some great family movie nights this October!
